Ahead of next month’s Assembly District 54 Special Election, two organizations leading the charge for social change, Equality California (EQCA) and California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters), have announced their endorsement of Educator/Community Organizer Isaac Bryan, a Democrat. To be considered for endorsement, AD 54 candidates laid out their vision for civil rights and environmental policy in comprehensive interviews conducted by the organizations’ staff and board members. Through this process, both EQCA and EnviroVoters determined Bryan to be the strongest candidate to fight for the people of AD 54, stand up to politics as usual, create a world that is just and equal for all LGBTQ+ people, and usher in the urgent change we need to turn back imminent climate crisis.

“Isaac Bryan is a bold, visionary leader whose intersectional approach to policy is much needed in the California legislature,” said EnviroVoters CEO Mary Creasman. “We do not have time to waste when it comes to climate justice, and California needs leaders who are willing to stand up to big oil and polluters. Isaac has proven that he will lead the charge and do what is right at this critical point. Assembly District 54 needs an Assemblymember who will take bold action on the community values of racial, criminal, economic, and environmental justice, and Isaac Bryan is clearly that candidate. EnviroVoters is excited to endorse Isaac Bryan for Assembly District 54!”

Upon receiving news of the two endorsements, Bryan stated, “This is our moment. The support of these two frontrunners for progress is an important call to protect our vulnerable communities, prioritizing the needs of our LGBTQ+ and BIPOC neighbors; ensure clean air and water for all; and lift people out of poverty by preparing for jobs in emerging technologies. Cooperative action is how we get things done. Together we commit to an unwavering vision of a brighter future, grounded in justice for everyone. All these things we want to achieve are within our grasp, through inclusivity and growing this people-powered movement from what started as a small few to what ends up a powerful majority. I’m honored and emboldened by these endorsements.”

Isaac Bryan is also endorsed by Congresswoman Karen Bass, Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Holly Mitchell, Senator Sydney Kamlager, Councilmembers Mike Bonin, Kevin de León, Mark Ridley-Thomas, and Nithya Raman, California Teachers Association, SEIU California, and dozens of other community leaders and healthcare, environmental, justice, and labor organizations. Vote by Mail ballots for this Special Election must be postmarked by May 18; voters may also choose to vote at local Voting Centers throughout the district.

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
