AB 405 – Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee

The Fashion Environmental Accountability Act

This bill would have tackled the fashion industry’s pollution and health harms by setting enforceable emissions standards for sellers in California. It would have required companies to map and take responsibility for their supply chains, follow a binding due-diligence framework, set emissions targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, and manage chemical use. Using California’s market power, it promoted ethical practices and reduced global fast-fashion harms.
