SB 222 – Senate Judiciary Committee

Affordable Insurance and Climate Recovery Act

For decades, fossil fuel companies have driven the climate crisis, generating environmental disasters that destroy California's communities and cause insurance rates to skyrocket. SB 222 would have let insurance companies and victims of climate-driven disasters recover damage costs through legal action against major polluters. It also makes sure the FAIR plan tries to recover money for major wildfire and climate claims from the polluters responsible, stabilizing the insurance system and saving taxpayers from having to cover costs through steep rate hikes. EnviroVoters was a cosponsor organization of this bill.
