SACRAMENTO, CA —The California Environmental Voters Education Fund (EnviroVoters Ed Fund) has launched a new six-figure ad campaign highlighting the consequences of Big Oil’s influence on California’s energy choices in the face of cheaper, cleaner options. The ads are running after last week’s announcement that fossil fuel companies spent $34 million influencing Sacramento lawmakers in 2025, closely behind their highest-ever spending in 2024. Meanwhile, two of the state’s three largest for-profit utility companies, PG&E and Sempra, posted dramatic year-over-year increases of 34% and 50%, respectively. The ads will be shown during news and TV shows and across multiple digital channels including Hulu, Meta, Roku, and YouTube.
“Dirty Days” shows the perpetual cycle facing Californians as they confront higher and higher energy costs, which affect everything from utility bills and gas prices to insurance bills, food costs, and health care costs. We see a family struggling every day with high energy prices while clean energy is repeatedly blocked by fossil fuel interests whose profits continue to increase. The video closes with a powerful message: “Dirty energy has us trapped. Clean energy will set us free.” The ads are a part of California Environmental Voters Education Fund’s Fight the Greed campaign which highlights soaring utility and oil company profits while cheaper, cleaner options are available.
“Year after year, we see huge lobbying numbers from corporate polluters, and voters are fed up with it,” says Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, EnviroVoters Ed Fund. “Californians face a worsening energy affordability crisis every day. They want to see us move to cheaper, cleaner options and they know these huge corporations are getting in the way.”
Creasman referenced 2025 polling that shows 78% of California voters support clean energy policies, 93% want to see wasteful spending by utility companies reined in, and 82% think that high bills come from utilities prioritizing profits over what’s best for customers.
