SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration cutting $7.56B in clean energy program investments across 16 states, $3.7B of which are cuts to California programs.

Statement from Melissa Romero, Policy Advocacy Director, California Environmental Voters:

“This decision is a direct hit on working families in California and across the nation. At a time when Californians are already struggling with high energy costs, this reckless move will drive prices higher, deepen the affordability crisis, and stall progress on the clean energy transition that would save families money in the long run.

Putting communities’ health and safety on the line, cutting clean energy programs locks in dependence on volatile oil and gas markets that choke neighborhoods with pollution. Families will pay the price not just for their utility bills but also medical costs and the economic damage of wildfires and extreme heat.

California has shown the world that clean energy lowers costs, creates jobs, and protects public health. Nearly half these cuts being made in California makes this another direct attack on our state’s climate leadership, undermining our progress and punishing Californians for advancing urgent and responsible climate action.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
