California League of Conservation Voters Endorses Huffman for 2nd Congressional District
Huffman: an environmental champion who gets results

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.-– Today the California League of Conservation Voters endorsed Jared Huffman for California’s 2nd Congressional District.

“For the past five years in the Assembly, Jared Huffman has been an environmental champion who understands the issues, shapes the debate, and gets results,” said California League of Conservation Voters CEO Warner Chabot. “Jared has advanced innovative job-creating environmental policies, while also turning back numerous efforts to weaken our environmental laws. 2011 was the most challenging year for environmental legislation in the past decade, but Jared proved that a creative, determined legislator can get things done even in a tough political climate. Among other things, he led the fight against big oil companies to make sure our oil spill prevention programs are adequately funded; he passed legislation authorizing partnerships with nonprofit groups that will help keep state parks open; and he jointly authored groundbreaking legislation to help end the environmentally destructive practice of shark finning. With environmental protection under increasingly shrill partisan attack in Congress, the California League of Conservation Voters is proud to support Assemblymember Jared Huffman for Congress, where his strong environmental principles and proven record of getting things done are sorely needed.”

The California League of Conservation Voters is the non-partisan political action arm of California’s environmental movement.

“I am honored to have the early endorsement of the California League of Conservation Voters,” said Assemblymember Huffman. “I have worked closely with CLCV in the State Assembly, where we stood shoulder to shoulder to protect our state’s environment while advancing innovative policies that are creating jobs in the clean energy economy. I look forward to continuing this work with CLCV and others in the environmental community as a member of Congress.”

About Jared

Jared Huffman, entering his third term in the State Assembly, currently represents more than half the voters in the new 2nd Congressional District. He is regarded as one of the state’s top environmental leaders, chairing the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife, and co-chairing the Legislative Environmental Caucus.

Jared started his political career as a member of the Marin Municipal Water District (MWWD) in 1994. He served 12 years on the board, including three terms as Board President, before besting five Democrats in a heavily contested race for the State Assembly in the June 2006 Primary.

Jared graduated magna cum laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and cum laude from Boston College Law School. Prior to law school Jared was a three-time NCAA All-American athlete and member of the World Champion United State Volleyball Team. Jared lives in Marin with his wife Susan, a teacher, and their children, Abby (age 11) and Nathan (age 8). In his free time, Jared enjoys fishing, tennis, and home winemaking.

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
