LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the results of the Governor’s race in the primary elections.
Statement from Mike Young, Executive Director, California Environmental Voters:
“The next Governor will play a critical role in determining California’s future. We’re disappointed that Steyer nor Porter will be advancing to the general election, but our movement has never been about a single candidate or elected official. Progress has always come from the ground up with communities and every day people organizing, advocating, and demanding change.
Corporate polluters spent millions trying to shape this primary and send us backwards, and we can expect them to spend even more in the general election to protect their bottom line. But what really matters is that Sacramento is working for Californians, not corporations. It’s clear that Hilton won’t be the champion we deserve to stand up for California values against polluters and Trump, and we hope Becerra rises to the occasion as he’s done in the past.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
