SACRAMENTO, CA — California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) issued a statement today to express outrage at the misinformation No on Prop 30 has circulated in an advertisement regarding Proposition 30, the Clean Air Initiative.

Prop 30 calls for a 1.75% tax increase on those with a personal income of over $2 million–top 0.2% of taxpayers. This will lead to an investment of $100 billion over 20 years to fight and prevent extreme wildfires, provide clean vehicle charging infrastructure, and provide individuals subsidies to ensure clean vehicle affordability. Fifty percent of this investment would be reserved exclusively for the state’s low-income communities.

Clean Air California is a broad coalition of environmental, public health, labor, business, environmental justice and consumer advocacy groups, including California Environmental Voters, the American Lung Association, CAL FIRE 2881, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Coalition for Clean Air, Lyft, Rivian, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, the State Association of Electrical Workers – IBEW, and many more.

Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, EnviroVoters:

“It’s infuriating that No on Prop 30 would spread misinformation at a time when we are breathing terrible air pollution and experiencing worsening extreme wildfires across the state. This campaign is actively creating a false narrative that Prop 30 is a ‘money grab’ designed by a single company to funnel state income taxes directly into its corporation.

The truth is the initiative was drafted by a coalition of environmental, labor, health and fire groups. Its funding goes to existing programs at the California Energy Commission, Air Resources Board and CAL FIRE, the same programs that the Governor’s budget invests in and that his agencies have control over. And finally, we need more companies stepping up to fight the climate crisis with our movement, not less.

No on Prop 30 is prioritizing California’s most affluent over an initiative that will directly benefit communities that have borne the greatest burden of our climate crisis and literally save lives. If our state’s wealthiest don’t pay, we all pay. The children and families across our state who are struggling to breathe demand more.”

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
