OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on the current election results.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“We’ve worked so hard to make something transformational happen this year, and there’s so much at stake. We all want results now, but the truth is we always knew this election was going to be close and likely take days for final results.
Early ballot returns skew conservative and we have to be patient and count every vote. It’s clear that winning the House is going to come down to California and these tight congressional races will take days, if not weeks, to finalize. We know that the red mirage of early returns is real and we’re in the midst of that now, but we’ve been here before and we need to stay patient.
On the state level, California is on the precipice of a historic win with the potential passage of Prop 4, a $10B investment in catastrophic fire mitigation, clean water and energy, and climate resilience. Initial returns show that despite Big Oil and corporate polluters spending millions against climate justice candidates, these state Senate and Assembly races are all in play and going to be close.
In this moment, we have to stay focused and remind ourselves that this is going to be close and take time.”
