SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Governor’s May Revise for 2026-27.
Statement from Shannon Olivieri Hovis, Chief Strategy Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“Last year was marked by huge giveaways to the oil industry, and the Governor’s revised budget fails to recognize that the climate crisis and corporate greed are driving the affordability crisis. We’re not seeing a plan on how the state will transition to clean, reliable energy and protect workers in the process. Trump’s war in Iran shows us once again that the longer we stay stuck on fossil fuels, the longer working families will continue to be squeezed by rising costs. This budget, like the Cap-and-Invest regulations, must be fortified to swiftly transition California to a clean energy economy, meet our emissions goals, and ensure that Californians have access to clean water, clean air, and public lands. We urge our leaders to fight for a budget that tackles the transition at the scale of the climate and affordability crises.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
