SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the most significant federal action to tackle the climate crisis. California has seen $11.9B of clean energy investments and 5,288 clean energy jobs in the past year alone.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“Today marks a year since our federal government made a serious down payment towards addressing the greatest challenge of our time. But after decades of inaction, the fight isn’t over. Continuing to finance our transition to a clean energy economy that supports clean energy jobs, phases out fossil fuels, and creates climate resiliency across our most impacted communities needs our focus.
The last year has ushered in massive wins, including unprecedented investments in renewable energy and the expansion of green infrastructure projects in every corner of our state. These are the impacts of the bold solutions California and EnviroVoters have been pushing for, but we must be diligent and ensure those on the frontlines have equitable access to IRA funding. Addressing our climate challenge depends on projects that center and benefit underinvested communities and are powered by good-paying jobs with high workforce standards.
We know that time is not on our side, so we should use this as a reminder of what we still need to do to address this crisis. With the elections coming up quickly next year, this is an investment in our collective future that we need to not only protect but expand. We are depending on Congress and the President to work together to build a healthier, cleaner future.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
